Dealing With a Sign Fabricator Should Not Be Stressful

Here's how we're different!

Late Deliveries

Other trade fabricators will offer 10 business days standard turn-around, which sounds great, except it’s rarely true. We believe it’s better to be honest up-front rather than promise deadlines that cannot be met. Our production times fluctuate, depending on the current production schedule and, these days, even depending on material availability. Production may vary from a couple of days to longer than ten days, it’s true. But we meet our deadlines which allows you to give set realistic expectations with your customers and avoid cancelling and re-booking installers.

Sign Failure

It's difficult to get a new client in the sign industry, and there is no better way to lose their trust than by selling a product that fails before its time. Saving a couple of hundred dollars on a sign sounds like a great idea until you have a set of channel letters worth thousands of dollars, that fails after a few months. At Toronto Channel Letters, we take specific steps to minimize the event of failure in a way that other trade fabricators do not. We use thicker, better-quality materials, and top-brand electrical components. We follow a strict manufacturing and quality control process. This is not the cheapest option in the long term, but it certainly is a better approach to business than selling cheaper signs that fail.

Lack of Clear Communication

Has your installer called you from the job site to complain about the lead length? Or have you made a deposit for a set of letters without knowing all the specs? Most trade fabricators do not even provide a proof before manufacturing your sign! At Toronto Channel Letters, we provide you with the shop drawings prior to production to ensure that the sign will be manufactured to your satisfaction.

Quality Control

Have you been in a position where your installer is picking up a set of letters for installation that you have not been able to see? Crossing your fingers is not a good solution. At Toronto Channel Letters, we will send you photos of the finished product so you know what is going up on the walls before your client does.

UL Certification

Fines from the city or electrical inspectors are no laughing matter. An uncertified sign is even an insurance liability for you and for your client. We offer UL certification as a standard on any sign over $3,000 and for $200 below that threshold.

We manufacture our letters with top standards, so you can feel proud about the product that you are selling to your clients.

We Clinch, Not Glue or Staple

Attaching the backs to the returns can be done in different ways and we use only the best one. Our coils are notched, then flanged and the flanges are used to mechanically clinch ACM backs and coil together every 4 inches. The result is that our letters are sturdy and will stay strong for many years. The same cannot be said when a letter has been stapled to the back, this is a fast but unreliable method.

Thicker Coil

Ours are manufactured with 0.040 aluminium and clinched to 3mm ACM. Other manufacturers use 0.032 aluminium or even worse letter edge and similar extrusions that are too thin and flimsy for Toronto’s weather conditions, where extreme high and low temperatures combined with strong winds demand sturdy materials.

3M or Avery Vinyl

Attaching the backs to the returns can be done in different ways and we use only the best one. Our coils are notched, then flanged and the flanges are used to mechanically clinch ACM backs and coil together every 4 inches. The result is that our letters are sturdy and will stay strong for many years. The same cannot be said when a letter has been stapled to the back, this is a fast but unreliable method.

Thicker Acrylic

Other manufacturers use 1/8” or even 1/16” acrylic as this saves money. While in the short term your client will not see a difference, a letter made this way will not last nearly as long as ours, made with 3/16” acrylic. Thinner materials are very flimsy and with wind vibrations the letter will not last.

Quality Craftsmanship

Great components help, but without top craftmanship, a channel letter is just a bunch of metal and plastic. Our fabricators have several decades of experience in the sign industry and assemble our letters by hand, without sparing any details like standard weeping holes, hats (optional), plastic bushings for each cable, 6ft. leads standard, painted screws for trimcaps, and silicone seals for the modules and edges.

Our letters are made to perform and last.

Hanley LEDs and Transformers

Of course, buying quality component is not the lowest cost solution. At least not in the short run. If your current channel letter supplier is using non-approved UL components or even UL or ESA approved but not class 2 you may be in for an unpleasant surprise. Same goes if the quality is inconsistent, these days many Asian components have flooded the market and they do not always offer reliable performance.

Gemini Trimcap

We use the best available trimcap in the market and bond it to the acrylic by hand. Other suppliers can work faster by stapling a much thinner extrusion that was designed for Asian markets but that will not last under the rigours of Canada’s extreme weather.
